The Role of Senior Care Assistant

We are hiring for a respected residential care home near Walkeringham that provides personal and dementia care. The home is committed to supporting residents to maintain dignity and independence, and they need an experienced Senior Care Assistant to lead their night team.

The Senior Care Assistant role is essential for nighttime operations. As a senior team leader on nights, you'll guide the team during the most crucial hours. Your responsibilities include supervising staff, supporting residents, mentoring junior team members, ensuring high-quality care throughout the shift, and being a dependable presence that residents and colleagues can rely on. It's not about making big gestures, but about providing consistent care and showing up every shift.

What You'll Be Doing as Senior Care Assistant

  • Lead night shifts with authority and warmth, supporting residents through the hours when good care makes the biggest difference
  • Support and develop junior team members with regular one-to-ones
  • Champion person-centred care and challenge poor practice when you see it
  • Contribute meaningfully to shift handovers and care planning
  • Ensure high standards of care are maintained across the night shift

What We're Looking For in A Senior Care Assistant

You have at least two years of genuine experience in a residential or nursing home environment. Additionally, holding your Level 3 in Health & Social Care is essential for senior roles.

Beyond qualifications, you're:

  • Resilient and steady - pressure doesn't unsettle you, and you stay committed long-term rather than changing jobs frequently
  • A genuine leader - team members trust and follow your example because you are competent and fair
  • Person-centred through and through - you understand dignity, choice, and independence
  • Safeguarding-savvy - you recognise signs of abuse, know the procedures, and act swiftly
  • Located within a 30-minute commute with your own transport

What's On Offer

The Money

  • £16 per hour plus incentives
  • Annual performance-related pay increases up to 8%

The Benefits

  • 28 days' annual leave (including bank holidays)
  • Pension Scheme with 3% employer match
  • Fully funded training and qualifications - plus bonuses up to £500 on completion
  • £1 meals per course whilst on shift
  • Free 24/7 counselling and wellbeing support
  • Recognition Scheme to cash in for rewards
  • £500 for referring a suitable candidate
  • Short-notice shift incentives
  • DBS check and uniform provided at no cost

About the Employer
